Today we had book checkouts during class; you should now have all of the books you need for this semester.

Students then worked individually or in groups to answer questions in preparation for our seminar this Thursday and Friday. If you did not finish these in class, please do so for homework.

Tonight: Think of the books you read in 9th Lit. If you had to choose ONE book to analyze repeatedly, using techniques from HTRLLAP, which book would you choose? You do not need to have a written response; I simply want you to have time to think about your answer tonight. We will discuss this further tomorrow.

Today we lost some class time for book checkouts, but you should now have all of the textbooks you need for the semester.

We had a brief Greek mythology pretest. I discussed the answers with you, and I now have a better picture of your background knowledge of mythology.

I distributed the vocabulary packet for the entire semester (along with a clear packet for storing these safely in your binder). You should start studying the Week #1 roots and terms. We will have our first vocab/grammar quiz on Wednesday, March 29. Terms from weeks 1-2 will be on the quiz. For sentences with this week’s words: Week 1- Overhead

If you have not turned in the syllabus signature sheet, please do so tomorrow!

Wednesday: 9th Lit Pretest 🙂

Thursday: Intro to Mythology, Why Study Mythology?, Mythological Allusions

Friday: Media Center Orientation

Today I distributed syllabus signature forms, vocabulary for the entire quarter, and diction/grammar lists for each week. After discussing procedures and general information about the class, we wrote our first essay. (Prompt: Is it important to question the ideas and decisions of people in positions of authority?)

Tomorrow: Critical Reading Pretest (2 out of 3 sections)

Thursday: Finish Critical Rdg Pretest; begin Writing Pretest

Friday: Vocab/Grammar Quiz #1; finish Writing Pretest (short section)

10H: Monday, August 13

Sophomores,

Welcome to 10th Honors! Today we had our “Welcome Back to School Vocabulary Quiz.” You used your notes from the summer assignments on the quiz, and then you turned in all work. I will be grading these over the next few days.

After the quiz, we viewed a powerpoint highlighting important points on the syllabus. You then completed a student information sheet; for homework, you are completing a goal setting sheet. This sheet also provides you an opportunity to share any other personal information you deem pertinent.

Tomorrow: Book Distribution

9th: Monday, August 13

Freshmen,

You survived your first day of high school! Every day will get easier, and by next week it will seem like you have been here for years. 🙂

Today we viewed a “First Day” presentation highlighting the main points of the syllabus, specific classroom procedures, and other general information. You completed a Learning Strengths Inventory and a student profile sheet, and you started on your homework. The last sheet requires you to set goals and describe your study habits; this sheet also provides an opportunity for you to share any other information you feel pertinent. If you did not turn this in before you left today, please complete and turn in tomorrow.

Tomorrow: Book Distribution
